Lionel Engines (110 items)
1-8816 Chicago & Northwestern GP-38 Diesel Locomotive #4600 When I beginning started playing with my dad'southward set in 1990, I bought this GP-38 engine to give the old Up 2023 a break. As with many early xc's items that Lionel put out, this one was comprised of by and large plastic pieces, so information technology sustained a lot of damage over the years. The horn was snapped off, but I take since replaced it. I likewise replaced the front truck and motor associates, as the original was damaged. It is now is practiced operational order, although its conventional configuration makes it pretty much useless on my modern digital layout. Though this engine is pretty darn flimsy and cheap, i good quality that it does take is that information technology is VERY fast. Don't' ask me how, but this affair really flies and would give any of my new locomotives a run for their money.

6_82232 NICKEL PLATE Route LEGACY ALCO PA ABA Set This consists of the 6-82232 AA set plus the improver 6-82252 powered B unit of measurement. Nifty engines! Made in 2015, added to my collection in December of 2015.
8304 Steam Engine & Tender I picked up a prepare from the early 70's on ebay that had this engine along with v cars for $32! Swell. The e-unit on this engine was having some trouble when I got information technology, but I got that stock-still at a local shop. The smoke stack actually cranks out a ton of smoke! The tender whistle doesn't sound quite correct, so I'll probably have to fix that besides...or get it fixed.
Lionel Rolling Stock (128 items, sorted by item number)
half dozen-16068 Wedlock Pacific "Romeo" Baggage Car (6068) I bought this set of 5 cars in the early xc's. They are groovy looking and well built.

vi-16074 Union Pacific "Livingston" Observation Motorcar (6074) Added to my collection in the 90'south
6-16244 Duluth Due south Shore & Atlantic Boxcar Built 1-93. This is pretty much the same type of boxcar as my Santa Fe model. It'southward cipher too fancy and by and large plastic, but it looks dainty on the layout.
half dozen-16244 Wabash Gondola This was part of a fix of 6 or and so cars that I picked up on ebay. The whole lot cost me $xv, I think. This car is used for weathering tests and other "not revenue" purposes. :)
6-16317 Pennsylvania Railroad Barrel Ramp Motorcar Another car that I added in the early 90'south. The thin and fragile plastic rails have broken several times over the years, merely never anything super glue couldn't fix.
half-dozen-16333 Frisco Bulkhead Machine I picked this one up off of ebay for a few bucks. It's a 1991, and then it had a lot of plastic on it. Yet, information technology still adds some prissy character to my layout. I replaced the cheap plastic trucks with die-cast trucks, so the car has a prissy weight to it.
half dozen-16485 Copper Range Ore Machine Built in 2005. Despite being a lower stop motorcar fabricated mostly of plastic (including the plastic trucks), this is a prissy looking car. I utilize this car for weathering tests.
6-16505 Wabash Caboose This is a inexpensive caboose that I've used for weathering tests and other "not revenue" purposes.
six-16533 Chicago & Northwest Bay Window Caboos This was i of the start new cars I got for the set back in the early on 90'southward. For the time, information technology was a pretty nice automobile. It doesn't have die-cast trucks, but it'south quite attractive still. It's a lighted caboose, and I accept fabricated a custom modification by placing thin paper over all of the windows. Non simply does covering the windows give the illuminated machine a warmer look, but it likewise provides a bit more realism since yous are not able to look into the auto and come across the light associates. I like to use this technique on a lot of my other lighted train accessories too. The newspaper is attached with some Elmer'south glue, so it can be easily removed at any time.
6-16601 Canadian National Searchlight Auto Another ane of the set of 6 cars I got on ebay for clay cheap. Aye, information technology's inexpensive fourscore'southward Lionel crap, but it works perfectly.
six-16610 Rail Maintenance Automobile An ebay find. Non a scale car, only it'due south nice for kids to run.
6-16907 Flatcar w/Subcontract Tractors My son loves the little tractors. Built 1-94, purchased by me on ebay for $15 in Oct 2005.
6-17026 Delaware & Hudson 50 Ton Offset Hopper These new offset hoppers that Lionel has fabricated are only gorgeous. In my opinion, these cars blow away just about whatever postwar auto as far as beauty and sheer craftsmanship are concerned. These things are big, bulky, heavy as hell and oh so very detailed. I've got 2 of them so far, but I plan to get a few more earlier it's all said and washed. Lionel has to compete for the train market now, and they have really come through with this series.
6-17027 Illinois Central 50 Ton Offset Hopper But like the ane above, except information technology's Illinois Central. Human being, I can't get over how gorgeous these cars are.
6-17041 Not bad Northern Commencement Hopper #73530 You guessed it, just similar the 2 above. I tin't get enough of these big and heavy beauties.
6-17042 Green Bay & Western First Hopper #418 Another one like the 3 in a higher place. I've got four of these hefty hopers now, and they wait then good on the layout!
half dozen-17251 BNSF fifty' Modernistic Boxcar A nicely done boxcar. My favorite part is the well done roof, which isn't visible in the photo. Made in 1999 and added to my gear up in March 2007.
vi-17588 CSX Husky Stack I got this as a birthday present from my dad. Built 2005, added to my layout in January 2006.
half-dozen-17589 TTX Trailer Railroad train Croaking Stack Just like the Croaking Stack in a higher place the existent-life versions of this car go though the CSX yard backside my place all the time, then I was really happy to get this. It'due south a big, rugged automobile and is highly detailed. This machine was built in 2005 and bought by me in November of the same yr.
6-17900 Santa Fe Uni-Body Tank Machine This 1990 tanker is not also bad for the age in which information technology was made. Yes, the tank itself is cheap plastic and so is much of the balance of the auto. However, the trucks are dice-bandage, which makes this a pretty nice car overall. I picked it up for a few bucks on ebay. I accept since weathered this car. It was my 2nd weathering attempt. I made a slight goof on the underside of the automobile, but otherwise I think it looks pretty good.
half-dozen-17983 GATX Tank Train iii-Pack I ordered these at the same fourth dimension I ordered the new Legacy Norfolk Southern Tank Train prepare. I found information technology funny that this expansion pack came in before that bodily set that information technology's supposed to enhance. At any rate, these cars are wonderfully detailed and very, very cute. Well done, Lionel! Made in 2008, added to my set in Nov of 2008.
6-18490 Union Pacific Ballast Tamper Pretty much useless on my DCS layout for right at present., but still a great niggling gadget. The niggling tampers move up and down every bit the unit moves. I'd similar to somewhen upgrade this to TMCC. Added to my drove in March of 2006.
6-18497 Norfolk & Western Speeder I plan to eventually upgrade this to TMMC functionality. Added to my collection in March of 2006
6-19216 Santa Fe Boxcar This is just a cheap boxcar, but it has special meaning for me. After I took possession of my dad'southward former Lionel set in 1990, this car was the kickoff new automobile that I added to the set. Moreover, information technology was the outset new car to run with the fix in over xxx years. I retrieve I bought this for around $30, which was a ton of money to me at the time. This is a 1990 model.
vi-19216 Santa Atomic number 26 Boxcar I institute this on ebay. It exactly like the one to a higher place, which makes for a nice pair of cars. Sure, they're the same car number, but who cares? Built in 1990.
half-dozen-19567 Railway Express Bureau Reefer A reissue motorcar by Lionel. Very high quality and a cute car any way you look at it. I added this car to my collection in July of 2005.
6-19653 Jersey Central Tool Machine An early 90's addition to the set. It's non too fancy, but it does light upwards! Pretty good quality besides.
6-21853 BNSF PS-2 4427 Hopper 3-Pack These are out of Lionel's 2006 catalog. I like that Lionel has started using the trucks with the rotating bearing caps like Atlas does. Information technology adds another level of realism. These hoppers are very nicely done. Made in 2006 and added to my set in June 2007.
6-21877 Domino Sugar Unibody Tank Motorcar three-Pack Very nice mod era scale tankers from Lionel. I picked this set and the one below for a discounted price from a Lionel dealer whose website I designed and manage. From the rotating bearing caps to the many die-cast parts, these tankers are sweet. The 3 cars in this set are sequentially numbered, which is an added bonus. Made in 2007, added to my fix in February of 2008.
vi-21878 Procor Unibody Tank Motorcar iii-Pack Same blazon of tankers as the Domino set above, but with Procor markings. Made in 2007 and added to my set in February of 2008.
6-21895 Burlington Northern Croaking Stack 2-Pack Added to my drove former in 2008.
vi-25059 Democrat 2008 Ballot Boxcar I figured these were unique cars, and since my local train store was selling them for fifty% off I decided to pick them upward.
6-25060 Republican 2008 Ballot Boxcar I figured these were unique cars, and since my local railroad train shop was selling them for 50% off I decided to selection them up. Naturally, I recollect the republican car looks a petty nicer than the decocrat machine. ;)

6-25654 Southern "Crescent Limited" Heavywight Passenger Machine four-Pack This is the matching passenger prepare to the Crescent Limited 4-6-ii Pacific. Wonderfully detailed and very well built! Made in 2012, added to my collection in March of 2013.
6-26132 Union Pacific Single Dome Tanker picked this up at a local train shop recently. This is a cute die-cast car and was instantly one of my favorites. Information technology's non a calibration car, but it'south still very nice.
6-26147 Archive Collection Diamond Chemicals Tank Motorcar One from Lionel's archive. The same high quality structure as the Upward tanker listed above. A very nice car.
6-26766 Priority Mail Operating Box Car Another loftier quality car that Lionel has put out recently. Nice construction all around, and yous tin't beat the archetype operating boxcar flake. The auto came with a tiny little mailbag that y'all tin adhere to the mailman and he will throw it out of the car when he pops out. I had no idea the mailbox existed until I was packing the car up for the motion to our new house and institute information technology taped to the plastic liner in the box. This car was congenital in 2001, and I bought it in August of 2005.
6-26781 #3540 Operating Radar Car This is remake of the original postwar #3540 Operating Radar Car. Information technology's really cool. I've got a soft spot for all of those 50'/60's Common cold War era cars. And then absurd!
half-dozen-26820 Penguin Transport Aquarium Car Since the old 3435 aquarium cars are pretty expensive to go, I picked up this 2005 version. It's really a well made and beautiful car to have. The fashion that this car operates is so cracking. Basically, you have clear windows on the outside, and on the inside in that location is a long piece of plastic with pictures of fish (or penguins in this case) on information technology. When electricity hits the car, little motors inside slowly roll the plastic movie by and information technology gives the appearance that the fish/penguins are swimming around inside the car. This auto is a perfect case of why I think that the postwar engineering past Lionel was so darn clever. They had to figure out ways to do information technology all "analog", with no assistance from computers or microchips or whatever of that stuff we take for granted now.
6-26934 Phillips Petroleum Dice-Bandage Tank Car Exactly similar the Spousal relationship Pacific car beneath, except with the Phillips 66 logo. An amazingly rugged and beautiful automobile. I think that only slice of plastic on these tank cars are the armatures on the trucks.
6-26943 Matrimony Pacific Oil Die-Bandage Tank Car Almost 100% die-cast metallic construction, this 1998 tanker is just lovely. It's heavy equally hell and has those prissy sprung trucks. This beauty easily stacks up to anything that the postwar era cranked out.
half dozen-27047 Chessie PS2 Hopper #600120 The local trainstore, Atlanta Trains, was having a 40% off sale so I snagged this car and the 2 cars beneath this i. Three brand new cars for just over $100 is a damn good bargain. I'd been looking for some Chessie Arrangement stuff anyway, so information technology was prissy to get these for a practiced toll. I like the these hoppers have opening roof hatches. I'thousand going to weather both of these cars in the near future. Made in 2008, added to my set in July of 2008.
half-dozen-27048 Chessie PS2 Hopper #600125 Just similar the hopper to a higher place, only a different road number. Made in 2008, added to my prepare in July of 2008.
vi-27169 Canadian National Cylindrical Hopper #370708 When I bought this cylindrical hopper, information technology appeared to exist tiresome gray color you run across in the offset motion-picture show hither. That's the side that was facing out in the box when I bought it. When I got home and opened it up, however, I turned to car over to detect a literal rainbow of color other side. Possibly this was part of CN'due south Gay Pride series. Hehe. In case your curious, the chemical formula on the side of the automobile, OCN[CH2]6NCO, is apparently the formula for "Hexamethylene diisocyanate" which is apparently a chemical used to harden paint. At least that's what Wikipedia had to say about it. This car is nicely done and is strikingly similar to Atlas' version of the cylindrical hopper. Made in 2007, added to my set in July of 2008.
vi-27184 Chicago & Northwestern 3-bay Hopper #135001 This machine is all die-cast and is incredibly well washed as well every bit quite heavy. Built in 2007 and added to my fix in January 2008.
half-dozen-27185 Chicago & Northwestern 3-bay Hopper #135002 I got this car most a week afterwards the i higher up. Aforementioned automobile, different road number. Congenital in 2007 and added to my set in January 2008.
six-27235 Railbox Modern Boxca I picked this machine upward at The Roundhouse in North Hollywood while I was on a business trip in Los Angeles. It's your basic Lionel scale boxcar with an attactive paint job, die-bandage sprung trucks and a metal brake bicycle. If you lot've ever wondered why Railbox cars carry the slogan "Next Load Any Road", click here for the answer. Made in 2007, added to my collection in February of 2008.
6-27397 BNSF 57' Mechanical Refrigerator Automobile westward/Cooling Generator Sound Furnishings The reefer is part of the Water ice Cold Express set I ordered from Lionel's 2010 Volume 1 catalog. This is a sound auto that makes cooling generator sounds on a 2 infinitesimal bicycle. Fabricated in 2011, added to my gear up in January of 2012.
vi-27398 BNSF 57' Mechanical Refrigerator Car due west/Ice Cold Fume Effect The reefer is function of the Ice Cold Limited set I ordered from Lionel's 2010 Volume 1 catalog. This auto has a fume unit inside that creates an "ice cold" frost effect when activated. Pretty cool. Fabricated in 2011, added to my set in Jan of 2012.
6-27399 BNSF 57' Mechanical Refrigerator Car The reefer is role of the Ice Cold Limited set I ordered from Lionel's 2010 Volume one catalog. Made in 2011, added to my set in Jan of 2012.
6-27410 Vision Line 30,000 Gallon Ethanol Tank Automobile 3-Pack These Vision Line tank cars are astonishing! In a nutshell, the "smart" cars sense when the train is moving and brand advisable tank care movement sounds. These sounds include tank fluid sounds, squealing brakes, flat wheels, air brakes and many more. Very, very absurd cars! Made in 2010, added to my set in September of 2010
6-27412 GATX Tank Train Automobile #53782 An addition car to Lionel's fantastic Tank Train serial of cars. Great stuff. Made in 2010, added to my set in Baronial of 2013.
half dozen-27440 Burlington Northern Cylindrical Hopper Fabricated in 2010, added to my collection in April of 2012.
half-dozen-27446 Norfolk Southern Heritage Southern Cylindrical Hopper A Christmas gift from my wife in 2010. Role of Lionel Norfolk Souther Heritage Series. Amazing looking! Makde in 2009, added to my set in December of 2010.
6-27462 Chessie ACF 4-bay Hopper Aluminum body! Made in 2011, added to my prepare in March of 2012.
6-27523 TTX Trailer Train Husky Stack This car and it'southward matching analogue below were the offset batch to come in from my 2006 catalog orders. Amazing detail and quite lovely. Built in 2006 and added to my collection in October 2006.

half-dozen-28409 Conrail Rail Bonder I picked this up on ebay for $32. Plainly, a track bonder welds the rails on the roads. At whatever rate, it's squeamish trivial piece and volition assistance add realism on the layout. This was made in 2006 and added to my drove in January of 2007.
6-29203 Maine Central Boxcar I love this piddling gem. It'southward zero fancy, but the xanthous body adds some nice character to my set. Very solid construction with die-cast sprung trucks. Built Jan of 1997, bought by me Sept. of 2005.
6-29603 Comet Single Done Tank Car My girlfriend thought this car was cute, so I picked information technology upwards. It'southward very loftier quality, like most of the other tank cars that Lionel has been putting out. Built 2005, added to my collection in October 2005.
vi-29717 Norfolk Southern Extended Vision Caboose Since the employ of the caboose is almost nonexistent on modern railroads (there are a few exceptions hither and there), I'chiliad usually not a big caboose fan. Still, when I saw this one, I instantly knew it would make a perfect companion to my MTH Norfolk Southern Nuance-nine. This is a nicely built unit with die bandage trucks, interior illumination and a fume unit as well. Since this movie was taken, I accept attached translucent paper to the windows of the cupola (upper windows) and so that the interior bulb is not then obvious. It seems to me to it'd be more realistic for Lionel to frost all of the windows at the factory, but oh well. Built in 2005, and bought past me in November of 2005.

6-36029 Southern Pacific Car Carrier Built 1999, bought by me in November 2005.
six-36262 Key of Georgia Box Car Even though Lionel has been making more than loftier quality stuff since the mid 1990'south, they notwithstanding crank out some depression terminate cheap stuff. Even with it'south plastic trucks and couplers, it yet looks nice. I mainly got this car because I've lived in Georgia all my life and wanted something having to do with Georgia railroads on my layout. One funny affair that I noted virtually this car is that the brake bike is made of metal. On Lionel'due south higher stop cars that use more die-cast metal, this is ordinarily no surprise. Nevertheless, the lower cease cars with plastic trucks and couplers usually have plastic brake wheels. I guess it's a sign that even in the cheaper cars, Lionel has improved quality. This machine was built in 2004 and bought by me in October 2005.
6-36727 WeyerHaeuser "Moe and Joe" Operating Lumber Machine Built in 2003 and bought past me in September of 2005, this is a bang-up high quality car. When activated by a command runway, the two men (Moe and Joe) unload sheets of wood into the dump bin (included with Car) one canvas at a fourth dimension. It came with about 5 or 6 sheets of wood that go unloaded. A existent beauty of a automobile to beautify my layout! watch quicktime video
6-36740 3469 Lionel Lines Coal Dump Car Office of Lionel'south "Celebration Series", this is an exact replica of the original 3469 dump car. I actually accept an original 3469 in my postwar collection, and the ii cars look fantastic adjacent.
6-36766 Erie Hunt Gondola The classic animated gondola with the cop chasing the hobo. I actually found information technology pretty hard to find the classic cop and hobo scenario. These days, most of the animated gondola's draw something silly like the Simpson's chasing each other or santa and his reindeer. Not that those are bad, I only like the original idea better. Built in 2004, bought past me in October of 2005
half-dozen-36780 Sea-Monkeys Aquarium Automobile Nevertheless on an aquarium auto kick later on I got the Penguin Ship car above, I picked upwardly this petty number. I remember seeing ads for Sea-Monkeys when I was growing up, and so this auto gives me a skilful chuckle every time I look at it. Definitely a unique motorcar, and very proficient quality to kicking! Congenital 2004.
6-39204 6464 Series X New Haven Boxcar Simply similar the classic postwar version, except with sprung trucks! Made in the USA in 2001, bought by me on ebay in Sept. of 2005.

vi-39406 Commonwealth Steel Hot Metallic Car #101 Simply gorgeous! This 2004 model is near 100% die-cast, weighs nearly a ton and would certainly elicit some very colorful language if you dropped information technology on your foot. In fact, it'southward and then heavy that information technology has six wheels on each truck. When the track is energized, the hot molten load of metal inside the machine glows! I bought this in Baronial of 2005.

9015 Reading Hopper Congenital 1-73. This car is part of a 1973 set that I picked up on ebay. They came with a 8304 steam engine. Back in 1990 when I first started getting new cars, I thought the late 80'southward and early 90's cars were pretty cheaply fabricated. I now know that they were spectacular cars compared to some of the stuff that Lionel put out in the 70'southward. This stuff is REALLY cheaply made. Plastic everything. The just metal parts on these things are the axles wheels. Fifty-fifty the niggling rivet thing that concur the truck to the machine is plastic! Thank God Lionel doesn't put out stuff like this anymore. I have since put die-cast sprung trucks on this piece, which has fabricated all the departure.
9125 Norfolk & Western Trailer Train Congenital i-73. More cheap 70'due south stuff. I utilize this for airbrush weathering tests.
9141 Burlington Northern Gondola Built 1-lxx. Another ebay find. I retrieve I paid about $9 for this one.
9704 Norfolk & Western Boxcar Picked this up for a few bucks on ebay. Fabricated in 1972. It's not scale, and then I don't use it very much, just information technology's nonetheless a nice car.
lionel_6-26604.jpg Halloween Spooky Grave Gondola picked this upwardly at Legacy Station and so that I could take a Halloween themed motorcar for the 2009 Piedmont Pilgrimage, since my open business firm fell on Halloween. It's a cute car. Made in 2009, added to my set in October of 2009.
